candle care

burn safely

All of our Hollyheart Candles come with a candle care card. Always burn your candle on a heat resistant surface, keep it out of draughts and never leave it unattended when lit. Always leave at least 10cm between lit candles. Never allow the flame to touch the glass, make sure you extinguish when 5mm of wax remains.

keep your wax pool clear

Make sure you keep your wax pool clean and clear of any debris such as wick trimmings or used matches. Extinguishing your candle with a snuffer helps to keep it clear and also helps to avoid problems associated with blowing hot wax.

straighten your wick

If you notice your wick leaning to one side you may need to straighten it by gently pushing your wick back to the centre of your jar using your trimmer, snuffer or wick straightening tool. Ensuring you keep your wick trimmed will prevent it from leaning to one side and creating an un-even burn.

wick trimming

Trimming your wick is so important for a clean burn. Wick trimming prevents soot marks and smoky residue. If you don't have a wick trimmer, nail clippers work well too.

tunnelling

Make sure that the first time you burn your candle, you allow the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the jar, we recommend 3-4 hours for the initial burn.  Letting the wax melt fully each time you use the candle will prevent tunnelling and wasted wax.
